Default Anyone want to school me on the 975x chipset?

I'm currently doing some research as I managed to score a Bad Axe 2 from Ebay as a X-mas present to myself. Yes, I'm shallow and bought it for it's looks

I guess I'm trying to decide whether to swap out my Gigabyte (in sig along with all the other parts) with the D975XBX2 or not. I don't plan on overclocking too much. Probably take the Q6600 to 3.0Ghz.

Other than that it seems to have enough SATA and USB ports as well as having Firewire, so I'm covered on that end.

Any issues or concerns (or even something positive) that I should know about the 975 chipset or even the board itself.

Thanks guys.

Don't do it.

I have no idea why you'd want to downgrade from your P35 to a 975X.

They are a PITA for OCing quads, & memory too...

Nothing wrong with it per say, don't get me wrong, but there's no way in hell i'd go from your Gigabyte to that board.

100% agreed. At least it'll look nice, though.

While the 975 is a step down from any of the new chipsets he does have a badaxe board and I've always told people if you want a rock solid steady board for a machine that will be pretty bomb proof you can't go wrong with these.

Reason is that not only is it a Intel chipset its a board made by Intel which have always been know to be bomb proof(ish) boards that give very little trouble for most people.

So if you want a solid board for a basic system that will probably last longer than a lot of other boards.. go ahead.. or if you want a solid board for a server do it.

But I wouldn't downgrade like that.
