Default LGA 775 Motherboard

Hey guys,

I was wondering what would be a good motherboard to overclock a E8400 to 3.6 - 4 Ghz or a Q6600 to 3.0 - 3.2 Ghz. Also, it must be compatible with a GTX 260 and have SLi capability.

Please don't give me the most expensive one. I don't want anything overkill and my budget is extremely tight.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that I would also like a board with good onboard audio as I won't be purchasing a sound card and will only be using a Creative Fata1ity Headset.

Thanks guys,
Hermes.

Hmm, looks pretty good. Is that as cheap as an Nvidia board will go for that has good on-board sound, good overclocking, and SLi?

Yep it's got good OC for a nvidia based chipset. Not as good as an Intel P45 chipset but then again you can't do SLI on an Intel P45 chipset.
The audio on it from what I have read is good.

Do a search in Google for EVGA nForce 750i FTW review.

You can find the non-FTW model for about $150 at NCIX.

I think the only difference between the non FTW and FTW version is the FTW runs each PCIE lane at 16x in SLI and the non FTW runs each PCIE lane at 8x in SLI.

Would I see any draw backs from the board running SLi in 8x rather than 16x?

Also, since it isn't able to overclock as good as the P45 chipset, am I still able to get the overclocks that I mentioned above easily? I never overclocked before so I need it as easy as possible.

Also, is the sound quality as good as the onboard sound on a P5Q-E?

Yes you should be able to get 3.6-4.0GHz out of the 750i. There will be a slight performance loss about 10%-20% running at 8x instead of 16x if the game suppors SLI. The onboard sound is good on the board. It won't be as good as a separate sound card but then most boards are not.
