Arrow AMD Deneb

AMD Phenom II X4 aka Deneb breaks well over 5ghz. I'm ready for some competition.

I'd love to see this happening with retail chips, and honestly have my fingers crossed, but I'm not going to hold my breath until they release these to the public.

They mention in that the stepping of the Phenom II's used in these demonstrations are only one off of the production steppings that will be leaving the door in Q1 '09. I think I know now what my next upgrade shall be .
edit:
PS: On a side note, it's about time we got some news from the read team, they've been too quiet recently and need to start making answers for Intel's i7 architecture - hopefully Deneb (and more importantly, the AM3/DDR3 Deneb) will be a step in the right direction.

If they release this chip at the beginning of the year and it is overclockable to 5ghz at 1.6v or at 5ghz period then we got a whole new ball game boys.

I'm glad theyre pushing back despite being much smaller than Intel. I mean, they're putting a whole lot of "new" into Deneb all at once, It can't have been easy.

Die shink? Check! 65nm -> 45nm
Lower TDP? Not confirmed yet, but if it can do 4ghz on air then my guess is: Check!
Re-engineered K10 Architecture? Check!
There's more, I know, but you get the idea.

Good point Exmortis, all the current 790Fx and 790GX motherboards are supposed to support them with just a Bios update. Which DFI do you have? Im considering getting a new motherboard now, and the Deneb later, hehe.

I have the DFI 790FXB-MRSH the B denotes the use of SB750 over the older FX board with just SB600. 3xPCIe (2x16lanes, 1x8lanes). So far it kicks my old ASUS board in the nards hehe.

So far I am very happy with it. Onboard sound codec is weak, but no worse if maybe slightly better then ASUS (DFI is realtek, ASUS was ADI), but then again its onboard sound one cannot expect much. DFI 790FXB supports all 65/45nm Phenoms default BIOS, but it is a very new board.

Unfair to do long term justice though, I have had it less then 2 months now up and running with Vista x64. But I am very happy with it to date.
