It doesnít actually say per core, it says per processor.
That white paper is much more marketing oriented than technical, so its hard to say,
and as far as I know Intel doesnít publish their instruction timings anymore, so we'll never know for sure.
Best Iíve been able to average on a Q9950 is 4 or 5 cycles per instruction,
and thatís a very rough test, and matches what I get on a PentiumD.
I assume where they made the big stride is eliminating the extra clock cycle needed to
access external memory through the FSB, since the memory controller is directly
connected to the internal bus now. That would get you +30% increase in execution time.

If what they say was true word for word, I would expect and 2 to 3 hundred percent
improvement, and as we can see thatís not the case.

130W TDP scares me though.

Amazing review. By far the best that I have seen. Only thing I want more would be more benchies!!

5.4 ghz is nice! I wonder how high on air and how high on water.

Well Vortex, the temps also scare me.. C'mon now, don't tell me we will be needing extreme cooling to keep these things at reasonable temps to overclock it..

Still trying to digest all this new terminology.

Nothing wrong with releasing a review a bit later out the gate if it turns into one of the most solid reviews on the web. Obviously a lot of work has, and will be, invested in this review of this platform so great job guys.

I am concerned at the lack of competition with Intel and the resulting features such as "TDP crippled" non-extreme cpus and ever more expensive motherboards. I hope the oc section including non extreme cpus will help to sweep these concerns away.

Hi I am new to this forum and I like to say great work all reviews are very informative and well structured.

Keep up the good work.

And I am wondering what are going to be prices of the x58 motherboard? I am looking at buying a new PC and so far the i7 920 seams reasonable.
