My System Specs

Default Reasonably cheap MB/CPU combo for gaming

Trying to get parts finalised before buying.
Machine will be used mostly for gaming and am looking to order soon so parts will be in for Christmas.

Was initially looking at GA-EP35 DS3L & E8400 but I see the EP35 is out of stock at DC/NCIX.
What's another good MB for a similar price? ($90-$100)
Will be running an 8800GTX and only on a 19" widescreen so crossfire/SLI doesn't matter.

Also...is an E8400 too powerful for what I'll be doing? (ok, I know there's no such thing as too powerful when it comes to PC's) but for gaming (CoD4/5, Diablo 3 etc) am I better off saving some cash and going with an E7200/E5200?
From what I've read I'll only see a 5-10% FPS increase with the E8400 which isn't worth the extra $50-$100 it'll cost me.

Will be overclocking at some point so will be getting either a vendetta 2 or Xigmatek S1283 to go with it.

Thanks in advance

Why not the EP43-DS3L? I've built a few low-cost rigs using the E7200 and it was a great checp combo.

So far I'm looking at E5200/Biostar TP43D2-A7 combo as that MB is around $10 cheaper than the gigabyte.

But that $10 could save you some hassle.. and a better board.

I would go with EP43-DS3L and 8400.

Well I don't have the cash to spring for an E8400, otherwise I would.

CPU will be an E5200 (hoping to get an o/c close to 4.0)

MB choice (I think) has been narrowed down to:

Biostar TP43D2-A7 ATX LGA775 P43 DDR2 1PCI-EX 3PCI SATA2 HD Sound GBLAN CrossFireX Motherboard - DirectCanada

ASUS P5QL Pro ATX LGA775 P43 DDR2 1PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 3PCI SATA2 Sound GBLAN Motherboard - DirectCanada

Gigabyte EP43-DS3L ATX LGA775 P43 FSB 1600 OC 1PCI-E 2PCI DDR2 SATA2 HD Sound GBLAN Motherboard - DirectCanada

If I could find a gigabyte GA-EP35 DS3L that would probably be my first choice but they seem to be out of stock everywhere.

As mentioned in my first post, crossfire isn't needed, and while RAID support would be nice it's not a deal breaker for me.

So...which should I choose?

Not sure what these folks are like for ordering on-line, but they're close to you, and you could give them a call to see if they have any in stock.

A-Power.com - Buy Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L P35 SATA/RAID/DD.. - Canada
