Default 8 GB Patriot Sector 5 DDR3 1333 $50 after MIR @ newegg

$50 MIR is a huge MIR but.... still a good deal I think.

Newegg.ca - Patriot G Series ‘Sector 5’ Edition 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model PGV38G1333ELK

FYI guys, expect ram prices to be at blowout prices over the next few weeks. Boxing day should be incredible if you want a ram upgrade.

We've already seen some drops, but we are at the tail end of the 30%+ drop that has been happening over the past few month and it should spell the biggest single slice off we've seen so far

Expect enormous MIR's (like the patriot) attached to most though, as they are attempting to capitalize on current/upcoming material savings.

That's unfortunate as they'll lose my business, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like that.

I'll only purchase items with MIRs if the pre-MIR price is already a deal, and in reality don't send in a hell of a lot of MIRs even if I get them.

Who the hell needs 8GB RAM?!

And care to explain why DDR3 RAM prices are dropping like flies?

easy. use half on a puter, the other half on another, and forget dual channel.

+

well, since there is so much more demand than what they can make (by the boatload) ...:D

Yea, I think everyone can agree MIR's suck. I would rather pay 10 bucks more and not deal with it... acutally it wouldnt be 10 bucks more as I'm paying tax on the rebate amount so a $50 rebate actually is costing me an extra $6 in tax.
It is the cheapest 8GB kit I've seen however. An 8GB 1600 kit for $99 (no MIR and free ship) is on the front page of slickdeals right now G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory $99.99 shipped - Slickdeals.net and this should be considerably cheaper in the end.

Well about 6 years ago I used to have 2 GB for (1 core/ 1 thread), doesnt seem unreasonable to have 8GB for 4 cores (or more)?

Not sure why prices are dropping so much but I'm guessing supply/demand? Maybe theres a more refined answer out there.

I use 8 GB RAM so I can still crunch Rosetta@Home while playing games that don't use multiple threads - each Rosetta@Home crunch program eats ~500MB of RAM, plus ~2GB for the game = hard drive swapping. Technically 6 GB would work for me too but that would mean mismatched sticks on my dual channel board.

Yep 50% of the price is too much MIR for me to swallow, given that I'm still waiting (3 months) for my $10 from Gigabyte's rebate... The MIRs is why I'm holding off on a GTX 460 purchase... haven't seen a GTX460 without MIR go down and match a +MIR deal.
