My System Specs

Default XP Home sub $100!!!!

You could probably still find it lower locally since you won't be paying shipping ($105 around here), but this is a pretty damn fine deal!!!!

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition OEM - DirectCanada

There is absolutely NO reason why XP should be more or on par in price with Vista anymore. XP is becoming dated so why should it cost the same.

Because if it was half the price of Vista nobody would buy Vista.... :)

Because MS has no reason to lower the price. Instead, they can just stop selling it at all, and people can get Vista instead.

Buying XP over Vista is not a good idea in my book. I have thoroughly enjoyed Vista Premium so far, and the switch to 64 Bit has been painless as well. XP is going the way of the Dodo, time for it to die off. SP3 will be nothing but a rollup of all the released fixes so there won't be anything to look forward to as in new features. Vista is a pain in the ass to install right, but worth the effort once you are there.

I will only be running Vista because I now run 4gb of memory and want to use it all. Otherwise I'd stick with XP like people still stick with Windows 98

I agree that there is no urgent rush to upgrade from XP, but to buy XP right now instead of Vista is what I am talking about.

I would sell XP home over Vista Premium in a heartbeat as Vista is simply to unpredicatble at this point in time. For example worked on a machine last night with Vista and the person wanted to run Maximizer 8 but it uses Pervasive database and guess what... version 8 is not compatible with Vista so you have to upgrade to 9 or 10 which is $$$ to the consumer.
