i prefer it not to have any scalers or color settings on the monitor as this can create lag. I love mine. i find it really handy for my photography and video editing.
I have to wonder about that damage myself. My own had a dent in the cardboard when I got it too. Fortunately, it never reached the insides, and everything checked out good. The dot pitch can be a killer with text on these things, but I've honestly impressed at how good regular apps (browsing, word processing, etc) look at 1920x1200 on this thing. And 1280x800 divides out perfectly on the games that don't support higher resolutions.
I called Dell and they will send me a new one. I hope this will allright. The thing is pretty heavy and it came all the way from USA via Purolator.
