How does this card compare to an 8800GS 384mb? As you could grab one of those for $55 shipped from DC (at least yesterday you could).

For gaming - the 384MB one would be great at 1280x800 and below. But at 1440x900 or 1680x1050, the 768MB version should offer a significant improvement. I would imagine, though, that either card would struggle at 1920x1200.

For folding - basically no difference at all, maybe +5% max for the 768MB version. VRAM plays a very minor role with the nv core.

The last poster at Newegg didn't like the card very much ...

Is not 768MB DDR2, pretty much the same speed as 384MB DDR3? Maybe this is a dumb question.
