Gelid Wing 12 needs a kick start to spin As the title says, I have a Gelid Wing 12Pl 120mm fan that needs a kick start with my finger before it starts spinning. Is this fixable? Or should I just scrap it and get a new one... The fan is green by the way because it matters. :) |
Check how much voltage is going to it it might just not be getting enough voltage anymore to start up especially if it's an older fan. Also if you have it hooked up to a PWM header on the motherboard make sure the settings in the bios don't have it at a super low rpm. I've had similar issues with Enermax Apollish fans and their temp sensor not allowing enough voltage to the fan and preventing it from starting. |
Totally forgot to mention that it's getting enough voltage. I've done some tests with it at high voltages and it's the same thing. Not to mention, it used to spin up normally... |
Have you taken it apart to see if there's any dirt or anything in the bearing system? Might possibly be that it has too much static friction which is preventing it from starting up. Also the magnets could be losing their strength from their age. |
other is the start windings have lost its juice for too thin of gage or start circuit failed best get a new one |
It could be so many things! Best to just buy a new one. |
