My System Specs

Default Case with 14 3.5" drive bays

Anyone know of a case with this many drive bays? Hopefully tooless if possible, I was thinking of maybe a 10 bay one and getting those adapters to make 3 5.25" bays into 4 3.5" like this,

NCIX.com - Buy Thermaltake iCage 5.25IN To 3.5IN Aluminum Drive Bay Convertor W/ 120MM Blue LED Fan - A2309 In Canada.

NCIX.com - Buy Vantec HDC-800A Drive Bay Converter 2X5.25 to 3X3.5 With 80MM Cooling Fan - HDC-800a In Canada.

And then running all of this on free NAS to make a massive file server :D What do you guys think? Also help me with the case please and thanks. I'm looking for one with hopefully 10 bays and hopefully I'll just pop a SSD in there for the main boot drive ya know.

Fractal Design XL can hold 10 drive bay and you can always use the 4X 5.25 with adapter for 3.5 so up to 14 drive bay :) I think for the price it would be your best bet.

Would you consider scavenging drive cages from old computer cases and modding/painting them to suit the case you have/like to buy?

There are 5x3.5 HDD to 3x5.25 bay units but they are over $100

What about using 2 pieces of sheet steel/aluminum and making your own 5.25 bay to HDD adapters - you could adjust the HDD spacing for ventilation as you see fit.

Any Lian Li full sized tower

They come with 10 stock, and more can be added onto the 5.25 bays.

Like this: NCIX.com - Buy Lian Li PC-A71F Black Aluminum E-ATX Tower Case 5X5.25 1X3.5 10X3.5INT No PS USB Audio eSATA 1394 - PC-A71F In Canada.

I have 13 HDDs in mine atm, case is an oldish discontinued PC-A7010

Why not go with one of the SuperMicro chassis? It's a little pricey but it comes with a power supply, hot-swappable drive bays and some of them will come with SAS Expanders* (keyword here is SOME)

Such as this one for example,
Super Micro Computer, Inc. - Products | Chassis | 3U | SC836E1-R800V / SC836E1-R800B
