Constructive Antec 900 ideas

I thought I would start a thread for some tips on how to make this very popular case even better, as it does have it's flaws.

I know it may not get many posts, but I am putting it up anyways so

Keep it constructive please.

I think the most constructive thing to do with this case would be to cancel your order hehehe. No, it's a good case, with a few flaws. Things I would do:

Put a bloody fan guard of some sort under the top fan! Stray fan and power cables sure can get sucked up fast!

Cut some holes behind the mobo tray. It is horrid for cable routing, so these holes should work wonders.

Use a modular PSU if possible. There is not much space to hide extra cables, so having no extra = a much cleaner build.

Heres my first one.

I cut up some carbon filters for my Weller solder smoke absorber and stuffed them in the 5.25 blanks in front of the fans. I had bought 5 packs of them, not knowing they were 3 to a pack. I also tried the foam that was in the bottom of my mobo box, but it was more restrictive (plus now the air going into the pc is carbon filtered, so pointless YAY! ).



I used a really botched way of measuring airflow and the filters essentially make the tri-cool fans flow the "L" amount of air at the "M" setting, but the filter muffles the sound a bit so its almost a wash.

I may replace it if I can fid less restrictive filter material, but so far this seems to work ok and a shop vac to the front of the 900 should clean it up.

So far so good.

I have made a lower one so far with a drill+dremel combo

gonna see if the electricians at work will cough up some edge stuff.

this revision has a few holes on it already, so i think just one more fore the 4 pin cpu...

Well, the one on the bottom I did about 45x30mm, not a whole lot going in there (cpu+atx+pci+molex or 2)...

got a 1/2" hole up top for the 12v cpu

it has 2 big ones on the side right by the atx and sata already...

electrical gave me a foot of the hole edging stuff, sweet.


wish I brought my power supply to work now, this is going faster than I figured it would...

oh, der, the 120mm one is for the PS fan, gotcha (thought you had typo'd, das huge).

my power supply is a dual 80mm front to back style, if/when I get a new one I will tackle the big hole (may buy same style...), thanks though!

Paint the inside semi-gloss or flat black
2 cans of spray paint should do it, did for me at least. It makes it look way better to me. I can't stand that grey colour. Down fall is, you see all the dust...
I need to paint my DVD-RW at some point too though as it's the ugly grey.

Last night I actually did the same thing with that filter idea. Used the "carbon" filter out of a old air purifier I had. Not sure if it's actually a carbon one though. However I need another piece to do the side fan.

K well if your power supply doesn't have a 120mm fan on it then you don't need that hole
