Where to place my computer case-less

I'm about to build a computer for a friend of mine, and I picked out all the parts for him, because he doesn't know anything about computers. The only part that I asked him to choose was the case, and he told me that he really liked mine, so I sold it to him very cheap, basically gave it to him. When his parts come in, I will be caseless, and I don't really want to buy a case until Boxing Day. So what's the safest way for my to place and run my computer without a case? My motherboard has a power button, so that's not a problem. I do not have a test bench. :\

Try to place it a bit higher then the desk so you wont drop thing on it. Also plaec it unreachable for cat or small stupid dog if you do have one. For the stand just use the mobo box + the foam that was coming in the mobo box. If no foam was included then give a shot to your local tool store for this kind of foam ( bigger sheet ). If you have some old sleep carpet ( you know the ugly yellow thing every ne was using in the 90 in camping ) Cut a bit of that it's just perfect. And voila, a caseless build:)

This crap is the thing I am talking about. try to find some.

Martin's got it spot on. Motherboard box will serve as a temporary computer holder somewhat decently.

I got a motherboard box + it is sitting on some 50 $ Rona shelf. the top part is my sabertooth rig, middle part my home server and bottom part is GPU, PSU and othe boxes.

Is it okay just directly on the cardboard box? And are there any bad side effects to my hardware by doing this?

Aside from pets and/or curious humans poking their fingers where they don't belong, not really.

The box might get a wee bit hot... what case did you have?

Box could work for sure, but it could get hot like other say. The reason of using foam is to prevent scratch from dust behind the mobo and box.
