aluminum which size?

first, i dont know which section i should post... maybe off topic?

i just found out that my first metal shop ripped me off... so i found another source... much much much cheaper than i thought... like a ten feet of square tube cost me 6.42cdn... ;o


here is the list of smallest size and price... but i can ask more quote later if necessary...

........ 1/2 X 1/16 aluminum square tube = .0535 per a 1 inch
......... 3/4 X 1/8 aluminum flat bar = .0457 per a 1 inch
3/4 X 3/4 X 1/16 aluminum angle = .0445 per a 1 inch
aluminum sheet .040 per 1 sq feet = 2.6673

i will use flat bar to support mobo only... angle or tube for support case... angle is much easier to work with (like screw, rivets, etc)

my real question... what is the best size to support case? i test them... flat bar is much flexible... angle is good... as square...


btw... i already design the case and measure at the autocad... sketchup for looking/ pipe location...

problem with alu you can't fold it for to stiffen it up, it cracks

know any tig welders that will help you weld strips or angle on panels

Uhhh.. Sure can bend it, we do it all the time. You can hem it (fold back on itself) as well, but you have to watch the grain direction. We've been making aluminum enclosures for over 30 years...

Al. can be bent, depending on the heat treatment applied to the stock without cracking. Watch out for grain orientation though (bend perpendicularly).

i dont need to bend or fold... just cut the tube then make some holes for rivet bolts... i just need to know what size that is suitable for case... i dont want it break down if watercooling is too heavy...

if you refer that i want that kind of case from the link that i posted... sorry i confused you... i just refer to the image... where the aluminum tube hold the motherboard place...

I have two 19 inch long 3mm aluminium angle bar lying around. Might be a little to thick for your needs tho.
