My System Specs

Default Wooden case ??

I actually need a new case and I was thinking about making my own all-wooden case. Did anyone here have done this before ?

I already made my work plan (worklog?), but I still don't know how i'll deal with the backplate. This maybe is the only piece i'dd take from another case. I'll prolly give it a try, but I don't know how i'dd deal with pci slots and MB's I/O's

Since I have some spare pieces I could make this case of, it would keep the price pretty low. (don't wanna spend ~150$+ on a large full-featured case). I'dd try to include dust filters, tooless design, lot of cable management. as silent as possible, and big enough to include a further watercooling loop. (2x 3x120mm rads). How nice it looks, I don't really care as I'll probably hide it somewhere under a to-be-make desk ... but for sure i'll try to make it look decent.

I was wondering if wood wouldn't kind of "keep" the heat inside ?

You can buy motherboard trays online that have the PCI brackets included. I'd recommend Lian Li because they have the sturdiest tool-less PCI slots for your graphic cards.

for example:

As far as wood goes I don't know much, but it will probably make it much bulkier and heavier. As far as heat, just make sure there is good airflow and you should be good. There's been some wooden cases built in the past and they worked fine.

I thought about wood before too but didn't look too far into it. You guys just gave me some ideas but a next winter project, I have a roof and painting to do on the house soon.

Thanks ! this is interresting. I think think I'll try to find a case (or parts of a case, backplate and motherboard trays) just for the mesurement. This or ill find a defective motherboard to work with. If I can' get it done from scratch i'll probably use the piece suggested.

As for the cooling,I'll prolly go for 1/2 200mm as front intake, (are 2 slow running 200mm fans louder than 1 at max speed..?). and i'll throw 2 120mm's extracting at the rear and probably 2 at the top as I'm not watercooling yet.

Nice !The first one is pretty much what I've been looking for... I guess it will be helpfull.

I have been playing with a wood case design. Make your posts recessed for front and side panels, can screw front panel from inside and sides can clip in, will make for a cleaner look also quite strong and will be lighter.
