Can you believe spacial problems with a Lian Li v2000II plus I am totally amazed that this case can't fit the Zalman 9700 the way it would most efficiently vent air. What do you guys think of the heat sink situated in this way? Will it vent just as well as if it was situated the other way? When I bought the heat sink from all the research I did I noticed most people had the heat sink set the other way. I wonder if it will make much a difference? http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/IMG_2566.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/IMG_2568.jpg |
why won't it fit? too wide? |
Yeah the fins are touching the bottom with a fair amount of pressure. Way to much to leave it that way, I wouldn't want to leave a heat sink touching anything in that manner. |
Well like that, it looks like its blowing air right against a solid metal piece. Thus that warm air is probably just going to go back into the heatsink. Maybe cut off the fines that touch whatever so you can mount it the other way. Or just get a new heatsink. |
Well what I'd do and I know its a crazy idea on such an expensive case is point the fan so it blows air down onto the metal, but get a hole saw or dremel and put a hole in the bottom plate to allow the air into the bottom chamber then get a couple 80mm fans for the bottom and have it pull the air out. |
Why not be clever and mod the included air duct to catch the heatsink's exhaust? |
Yeah, you're not going to get good airflow through the fins in that manner. Either the fan sucking in will be restricted in available airflow, or there will be a restriction to air flowing out causing a slight backpressure again preventing optimal airflow. I second the idea of modding the case to provide unrestricted airflow. |

Thats what came to mind for me too. |

I knew the heat sink situated like that wouldn't do, all it would do it stir the air around in the case making for a nice sauna. :censored: SOB!! I am pissed!!!! I most likely will sell this heat sink and go with something else as I am building this over time I can't fire it up as of yet anyway. Who here is looking for a brand new used Zalman 9700? Again with a even bigger more furious :censored: Shit.......... Shit shit shit shit shit shit shit..... etc. |
