Default Mountain Mods + Canada = FAIL

My story begins a month ago, when I ordered my first Mountain Mods case... It took MM almost 3 weeks to ship it. Granted, I heard they were moving, but 3 weeks is still a long time.

When the part finally shipped, I noticed they did not use FedEx like I had requested, but UPS. UPS IS THE DEVIL for those ordering from Canada, as they impose outrageous duty/brokerage fees.

So, today the case arrived... $259.99USD for the case, $38.75USD for shipping and UPS charged me an additional $95.62CND in brokerage fees. Factor in the exchange rate (~$1.26 at the time), and my H2GO case cost me over $150 to ship and almost $500 in total.

Just thought I'd share -- be very careful when ordering from the States, I was, yet MM still found a way to **** me.

Yep, yep.......

It's horror stories like these that keep me from ordering anything from the US. I'd only order from a company that had a good history of being sensitive to Canadian shipping concerns.

Did you drop them a nasty?

I dropped UPS a nasty... but I told MM I wanted to return the case for a refund. I don't mind losing the original shipping costs ($38.75) to prove a point... we'll see if either company is willing to help me.

ya right i think you are going to be out some coin here and i agree with the mod unless u.s dealers take in to the fact shipping with ups is a nightmare to canada.
p.s have been putting off a mods case they are some of the ones i have been looking at but after stories like this i dont think so hope they return your money

Our friend zlojack pointed out that MM only ships to Canada with UPS or USPS -- however, the USPS shipments aren't insured. So I chose FedEx to have my order insured, which MM switched to UPS.

Either way, it hasn't been a pleasant experience.

Kind of a drag, although you'll pay brokerage fees when shipping with anything except USPS Int'l, unfortunately. Although they really should have called to verify/confirm when the specified shipper wasn't used. I've made several orders from them myself, with no troubles, although I've always used USPS, since MM packages stuff pretty well, and panels aren't fragile the way electronics are.

Kind of weird about the delay, since I ordered a panel about that same time. They were in the process of moving, but the first day at the new location, I called up, placed the order, and it was business as usual. Wonder if it was a stock situation?

Everyone knows unless stuff is shipped via USPS your going to get harsh charged fees.

Personally this has nothing to do with MM, UPS, or FedEX. This has to do with you not checking how they ship and if they didn't ship USPS I wouldn't have ordered it.

Ouch - Keep in mind - of that $96, $40+- was GST/PST (depending on where you live).
So their customs fee was around $50... which is dare I say normal for those scammers... I mean couriers. Fedex would have done the same... possibly less around $30

Did you pay the extra for FedEx? or just request it via a ticket or in the order comments... if the latter was the case then I am not surprised they chose UPS, it is generally not up to the customer to choose their shipping option unless options are provided.

It seems ridiculous that they wouldn't offer insurance through USPS as that is the method of choice for Canadians.

Why didn't you just order from NCIX - I thought they stocked MM cases?
