Default Is rear exhaust fan really needed?

I've noticed on my antec 300 the air coming out the top 140mm fan is warm (it's right above the heatsink so not a big suprise).

But no matter what kind of load on the cpu the rear exhaust fan is always blowing out cold air (seems kinda wastefull).

I'm trying to decide whether it would be beneficial temperature wise to mount 2-120mm fans at the top of the case.

I would probably cut out a plexi glass window and mount the fans to it.

Input/opinions needed!

In one of my systems that has both a rear 120mm and a top 120mm, with the airflow from the cpu cooler directed towards the top, I leave the rear 120mm installed... However, I run it the lowest possible RPM given by my fan controller. I do this because if you remove the rear exhaust fan completly the top fan will draw air through the path of least resistance... in this case through the grill of the missing rear 120mm fan. By leaving the 120mm hooked up but running slowly, I find that the top fan works only at pulling the hot air out of my case. Just my $0.02.

LMAO.... how's this?

Edit: Sorry for OT, OP, on topic..... your goal is to draw all your hot air out of the case in any direction that makes sense(Eg. don't draw warm CPU air over your GPU by pulling it out for the bottom). Depending on the direction of your heatsink, you should see if the rear fan has an effect. If it does not.... why keep it?

Well here's some more common sense. TEST IT. Check your temps now, make your changes, check your temps again.

These are my thoughts at least, without seeing a picture of your case, and considering I've never worked on a Antec 300 before.
I vote that you Reverse the Direction of the 140mm to Intake vs Exaust and then keep the Rear 120mm to exaust it all out the back.

Creating a Reverse L airflow pattern. Less likely to create hotspots and will make better airflow over the entire board. IMO at least anyways.
Did it on a Tempest and it made a little bit of a difference, but to each their own really.

Regards,

ST
