This computer system will be a starter rendering station of a friend of mine who is starting an aerial photography company, Neu Heights Aerial Imaging, using his drone, a DJI Inspire 1. Have you considered a used dual CPU workstation? Something like a Dell Precision T7500?

Yeah, I started down that route for him, but I for what Dell puts out (the T7500 isn't available anymore), I really can't hand pick the best components, and what they offer is between $750 to $1500 more expensive. A Dell 5810 Workstation system decked out with a 27" 4K monitor, 32GB memory, and a single Xeon E5-2690 12C/24T CPU came in at $5353.57, and that is with a slower and smaller SSD and slower 4TB hard drive). He is teetering on going with the single hex core CPU and biting the bullet and going with a dual oct core system.

Once he figures out if he want's to go for about $3700 or $5600 for a total system, then the final spec's will jell.

Well, the credit card is screaming now. He went for the dual Intel Xeon 8 core system. A couple tweaks here and there, but now that all the parts are on order, hopefully I'll start getting parts inside of a week and start the actual build.

Well, it isn't an exciting photo, but it is a key part of the system. The Dell P2715Q 27" Ultra HD (3840x2160) IPS display.

More goodies arrived today, so picture time!

I fired up the Dell 27" 4K monitor and sat it next to my Dell 24" monitor, and it totally dwarfs it.

Here are the rest of the goodies ... Samsung 850 Pro SSD (512GB), 4TB Western Digital Black, an LG BluRay burner, and a copy of Windows 8.1 Professional.

Now just waiting on the case, MB, 2 CPU's, 2 coolers, and 64GB of DDR4 memory.

Well, the last of the parts came in today!

In the good news/bad news department, since I bought the motherboard, RAM, CPU's, heat sinks, and case all from the same company, they went ahead and assembled everything together and tested it (very smart on their part) but alas, this means that my job will actually be very little. Basically all I have to do is pop in 3 drives, a PSU, a graphics card, and install the OS.

Oh well, sometimes simple is better.

Here is the box from JNCS.com

Putting the case out, I saw the motherboard box and was wondering where the boxes for the CPU's, CPU heat sink/fans, and RAM were.

Then it hit me, they shipped it assembled. Oh well, here is a shot with all the parts.

Time to pop the side off the case and look at the business side of things.

MMMMMmmmmm 16 Core/32 thread, and 64GB of DDR-4 goodness.

And the case even looks nice, and certainly is well insulated for sound. Should make for a very quiet rendering station.
