My System Specs

Default Project Monolith

Since my last gaming rig was killed by lightening much like someone living in a flood plain I'm going to rebuild! I thought you might all like to come along with me while I do this. I'm calling this Project Monolith. Much like the iconic prop from 2001: A Space Odyssey my Corsair 700D is a giant black slab so I felt the name fit.

Here's the parts list I've come up with. The whole rig has set me back about $2200 USD. Since the insurance is covering most of it I've decided to make the best use of the money I could.

Wire Loom Bitspower 10x 1' section Bitspower Super Tight Weave 1/8" - Black
Wire Loom Bitspower 5x 1' section Bitspower Super Tight Weave 1/2" - Black

Here's how I planned to install the cooling components.

Here's how I plan to wire the fans up. Since there is a design flaw with the Corsair fans I can only run 4 to a PWM splitter before they loose the ability to be PWM controlled due to signal attenuation.

So, minor glitch. The fans from Corsair are not in fact PWM fans, they're 3 pin jobs. So that means my plans to use the Swiftech PWM splitters won't work. So I've ordered a NZXT GRID+ fan controller. I have a spare USB 2.0 header on my motherboard so that shouldn't be a problem. Also, Corsair in it's infinate wisdom decided the best way to implement a USB 3.0 front panel upgrade was to put standard Type A connectors on the back and have you run the cables into your rear motherboard USB 3.0 jacks by routing the cables through the rear water cooling grommets on the case. That's not going to work either so I've also ordered a USB 3.0 motherboard header to USB Type A female adapter so I can keep all the wiring in my case, where it belongs.

Here's a couple images of what I've gotten done so far. I've assembled the radiator/gaskets/fans and mounted it, spiral wrapped much of the wiring, mounted the SSD, and installed the motherboard.
