My System Specs

Default Home Server Room Phase 2

Hi all,

Following the initial work on my home server room (Servers home lab) last year, some things have changed and will be changing in the following weeks so I want to document those. Here's an initial list of things that will be documented:
  • 24U Cabinet - EDIT: After purchasing a 42U cabinet and realizing it can't go through door frame, going for a 24U cabinet instead
  • 2 x PowerConnect 5324
  • Upgrading my file server
  • Adding a Poweredge 2950

Not sure if I'm missing anything for now. Maybe I'll add some later. Stay tuned...

I was jealous of you setup the first time. Can't wait to see all the new kit.

My problem right now is I had purchased the 42U cabinet but once I got it home, I realized that it physically fits in the room but I needed to remove the wooden frame of the door to get it through (still the same with the 24U by the way). While sleeping that night, I was seeing how to get it in the room then realized: I don't have enough clearance in front of the door to get the cabinet all in then get it up. Waking up next morning, I went straigth down to measure and... DAMN! I was right. No way I can get it UP in the room.

Lucky me, I called the seller and he is willing to trade the 42U for the 24U as he's already got another buyer for the 42U. Trade is happening tomorrow so with the price difference, I may get additional hardware to fill up that cabinet.

Buddy of mine took a saw and fixed a door frame in a similar situation.

I'm sure a Dremmel will fix the 42.
