I just ordered four 330 watt/ 67C delta peltiers.

sinking 500 watts , we're looking at delta T of about 50 C ! about 3kW thermal dissipation.

If I can actually build the heatexchanger in my mind , it'll be running -2c hotside !!

I suspect the next stage ( buying the copper) is gonna effing cost me.

edit : -2c hotside = -50C coldside.

What's the make and model of those suckers? I've never seen TECs of that capacity before.

And still curious how you're powering the whole system.

I have, in the scientific insturment industry. We had Pelts that were capable of actually a lot more than what he is using. I have a few from when the company went under, for a rainy day when I have half the intelligence of our mad scientist here.

Looking forward to it mate, can't wait to see what you make.

Hehe.

Standard TEC's : Sorted by Imax : CustomThermoelectric.com

specifically ,

---

I'm going to explain how I've spec'd these peltiers , because it's not easy to make these things work , and I want people to understand.
----

So you want to build a TEC cooler....

The first thing you need to know is the T.D.P. ( Total Dissapated Watts ) of the system you are trying to cool....

In my case , I'll be doing a mini ITX 2011 socket , 6 core somethingorother.....NO big video card initially.Powersupply and ssd are submersed too , so it's everything being dissapated.Let's call it 500 watts.

The second things you need to know are :
a)how much do I want to cool said system ,
and b) how cold can I make the 'hot' side of the peltier TEC units.

Once again , In my case I want a delta T of 45-55 degrees C and I can get the 'hot' side to 5c no problem.I might be able to get -7 C hotside but we'll see....

So if you look at the graphs on that spec sheet , each of the 4 pelts I ordered will only be doing 125 watts Q or so ( 1/3 rd of rating ) .....that's how you get the -50c delta.

Also note how while only 'sinking' 1/3 of the rated Qmax , they will be at nearly full power anyways.
-----

I'm custom building a 100 amp/32 volt psu to power the pelts , the computer just plugs in.

Heehee....

Listen , a 100 amp/32 volt power supply is kids play compared to buying the copper bar I want.

My electrical engineer suggests 2x 50 amp supplies would be cheaper tho...

That's fine, it's 2 blocks anyways.

Like I said in your BST. Find a used crucible and make your copper block :P

Woop !

Ok, here's the first pic.

------

The tank beside 4x 331 watt peltiers.

Edit :

Here's the peltier numbers (for all 4 ):

Qmax = 1320 watts
Q effective= 500 watts
Emax = 68 amps @ 32 volts.
E effective = 60 amps @ 28 volts.
Eload= about 2 kW !
Thermal Dissapation : ~3 kW

You understand the difference between a cooling loop and a system loop right? For this kinda cooling I would certainly consider looking into it.
