At this point Wi-Fi is still broken on pfsense.....

I have a 50$ AP plugged into my switch , I'm handling Wi-Fi that way for the moment....

I think he means a wireless router with DHCP turned off, seeing as that is what most people do for AP's.

Ah, fun times. I used to have self-made router with bunch of NICs in old AMD tower. FreeBSD FTW! I was 10 years younger...

i have wireless workng on my pfsense router.

all you need to do is setup a bridge, you have to bridge your wireless and wired cards, then turn off the dhcp server on both of those interfaces then use the bridge's dhcp server.

so it looks like this

WAN: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Lan: 192.168.1.2
Wlan: 192.168.1.3
Bridge: 192.168.1.1

you may also have to use the onboard as just enabled but not doing anything.

when i get home ill find the article that helped me.

EDIT: this is on pfsense 2.0

sometimes i get a watchdog timeout on my internal networks nic but its ok it clears up.

I actually wanted to just make a router firewall with low power that doesn't need a switch or another router for wireless.

I actually based my router on your design, and came up with an ESXi-based rig (M3A79, 1090T, 8Gb, dual Gb NICs) that runs PfSense 2.0, Openfiler and any other VMs OSes I want to try (W8, OSx).
But I may be replacing it with the 4P rig that I'm building, which would also take care of my home server (handling a raid 6 arrays, and the printers).
