MDF Case build! 56K warning! "PROJECT HAS BEEN SCRAPPED" I like to work with wood so I figure why not try something new. so MDF all the way. I don;t plan on keeping the case looking like a wooden box so don't worry. :thumb: (Ignore the dates, forgot to turn it off) This is the base Frame http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/image...089eaea853.jpg the base frame with the mock up of the Heater core. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/image...08a78be0b1.jpg http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/image...08a78bf872.jpg Good Idea to run some soapy water through the Heater Core 3 or 4 times for 20 minutes... You never know how much junk and coolant is in there. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/image...32efacaf07.jpg I had to custom some pieces to make the power supply and the CD/DVD drives fit. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/image...32efad920b.jpg http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/image...32efad5e34.jpg Slots installed http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/image...32efadc88c.jpg http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/image...32efadad3d.jpg Powersupply and Drive fit http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/image...32efade3e3.jpg http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/image...32efae39dc.jpg http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/image...3308052666.jpg Stay Tuned, more to be done.. |

Hey it's one of those Canadian Tire digital thermometers!! Good work so far!!! |
Very nice work! what color of stain are you plannning on useing? |
i bet a scroll saw would have made that alot easier, do you plan on active wc? lookin great great so far:clap: |
Nah, I'm a router guy myself. Scroll saw does have it's uses for sure. Active WC is almost a must for me, I gave up on air cooling. I just can't wait to see what kinda results I'll get with that Heater Core.. Shes a big boy. Since it's MDF board I don't plan on using stain. MDF takes well to primer and pretty much any kinda paint. I want to do a semi gloss black with polished steel siding for some appealing look. The Front of the case is going to have an Aluminum Diamond plate about 1/2 in away from the MDF. So I can add some kinda lighting to illuminate the back side. She should look pretty cool when I'm done. So far the steel and Aluminum components are slowing me down. Takes more time. |
Holy cwap man!!!!!!!!!:shok: Have you drawn up the plans for the wheelbarrow it's gonna take to move that beast around????? :) Looks great! Looking forward to seeing the finished product and what kind of temps you get. I'm always impressed with the amount of work that goes into major mods (or from the ground up in your case). I don't have that kind of patience. If I can't cut it / paint it / and assemble it in a weekend I'm not usually interested.... :) |
OH you have a very good point, I do agree. you would think it weigh a ton but a did the math and it will way less then my previous case, and trust me.. that thing had wheel and it was HORRIBLY heavy. This one you can pick up and carry to your car. Not that I really want to do that often, but you can. |
Just put a table top on it and you can have a desk as well! Nice job though! |
