Default Project: i7³
After months of contemplation, I finally gave in. Here starts the completely unneeded upgrade to i7. As for the name of this thread, I've fallen in love with my MM Horizon, so I gotta stick something to do with a cube in there.
And of course, before they all arrive, I've gotta give you a part list. Basically going with cheap overclocking in mind.

Case: Mountain Mods Horizon (Black Wrinkle)
Processor: Intel Core i7 920 (Thanks Linus!)
Motherboard: Gigabyte X58 UD3R
RAM: G.Skill Trident 3X2GB DDR3-2000
Video Card: HIS Radeon 4870x2
Hard Drives: (2) Hitachi Deskstar 500GB, Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB
Power Supply: Xigmatek MC NRP-NC751
Sound Card: Auzentech Forte
Fan Controller: (2) Sunbeam Rheobus

And onto the cooling:

Fans: (10) Zalman ZM-F3, (4) Yate Loons (coming from Kyle L, unsure exactly which ones), (2) Antec Big Boy 200mm

Watercooling Loop 1:
Pump: Danger Den DDCPX-Pro
CPU Block: EK Supreme Acetal (Original)
NB Block: Swiftech MCW30
Reservoir: Swiftech MCRES-Micro
Radiator: (2) Swiftech MCR220
Tubing: 1/2"ID 3/4"OD clear vinyl tubing (Home Depot stuff)
Coolant: Distilled water + Swiftech Hydrx

Watercooling Loop 2:
Pump: Laing DDC-2TP w/ aftermarket top (Swiftech MCP355 Equivalent)
GPU Block: EK FC4870x2
Reservoir: Swiftech MCRES-Micro
Radiator: Triple Black Ice Pro (Old, non removable barbs)
Tubing: 1/2"ID 3/4"OD Primochill UV Blue
Coolant: Distilled water + Swiftech Hydrx

-Still waiting on the motherboard and RAM to be shipped from NCIX (check the rant post), and Linus said the i7 should be here shortly. Kyle L's watercooling bundle will be here tomorrow, what a waste having all the watercooling stuff and nothing to cool with.

- I am still iffy on whether or not I should watercool the NB. If I do, I need to find something for the mosfets. Do you think the NB is going to be a limit for overclocking if it's not under water? I mean, I'm not going for 5GHz or anything, but hoping to go somewhere around 4GHz.

- I am also wondering on what to do with my hard drive situation. I am thinking of doing RAID0 for the Hitachis and keeping backups on the Western Digital. Then again, I could also do RAID1 on the Hitachis and use the Western Digital for something else. I don't know what though.

- I know the RAM is overkill, but pricematched, it was only $20 or so more expensive than some of the 1600MHz ones.

That title is misleading... I thought it would be a tri i7 board. :P None the less, I can't wait to see this log with a MM case! :D

You should be able to do some good things with that case-although big they can be nicely customized........ plus there will never be any issues with big cards (i.e.5870, GTX300 etc) and you cant beat the side and top views!

I've got a bunch of pictures from the shipments I got today, but I gotta pull off my camera first.

However, before that, I've got a question for some water cooling people. What do you guys do to clean the fins of the radiator? I've tried air cans but it just gets off the big chunks and nothing else really, and dunking it in water just makes the dust wet and goopy.

Well, the shipments today consisted of a lightly used i7 920 and a bunch of watercooling goodies. Seems the batch for my i7 tends to be on the "less overclocking friendly" side of things. Oh well.




Here's the pump, and the cheap ass' cable sleeving, electrical tape!





And then random bits and parts we all know. I could use a good metal plug for the top of my res as this one is useless. BST forums here I come. As well, a big reminder to remember to clean out your blocks. Gets pretty nasty in there.

Not an issue as I won't be using it

Anways, seems I'm in for a nice surprise. Pump is in fact a Laing DDC2TP, meaning it is the equivalent of a Swiftech MCP355. The Corsair sticker on it mentions DDC1TP, but the information on the side of it says 18W and DDC2TP. I'd tend to trust the other information over the Corsair sticker.

Small change of plans. I'm going to use the clear tubing for the CPU loop and UV Blue for GPU as I prefer the look of it and I'll be seeing more of that. However, the clear tubing is horribly stiff so I'll have to throw in some spare black tubing I have for tight bends. Also, the crappy news is that NCIX only got my order shipped out last night, so I probably won't have any other updates until it gets here next Monday most likely.
And here's two more shots, the tubing I've got as well as the extra fans I'm going to do a push/pull with on a double rad.
