thats ok. You see the freenas installation is rather small (around 32-64MB) so instead of using a portion of the drive array for an os i am using a cf card.

I have to say that's one sexy ass rig. Out of curiosity, why did you choose the WD Black's?

a couple of reasond.

1. Their performance is better than GP
2. I already had 2 and wanted the drives to match.

How are the drive bays working out? Are they keeping the drives cool?

Default Final Update

So i finally got my gigabit nic yesterday. I installed it and freenas saw it right away. So onto the testing i am averaging around 40MB/s Transfer Rates on a load balanced link. Unfortunately i can't test LACP or FEC modes since my switch doesn't support 802.3AD Link Aggregation (is an unmanaged switch and i can't justify the cost a Advanced Smart swith that has 24 gigabit ports.)

That's going from a 8MB/s sustained to around 40 MB/s. How ever it still not saturating the connection as thats only about 350mb/s on a 1gb link. Not sure if i can do anything about this. But it could also be the single drive setup in my main machinehitting it's upper limit.

I got it from another forum (overclock.net i think) from a forum user named borito. He normally has perc 5/i and 6's for sale. ( the biggest difference is one supports raid 5 the other raid 6. My card came with the card, bbu unit and cable. no back plates or fan on the HS. Price was $125 USD shipped to ottawa.

Total cost was probably in the sub 2k ( might have been a little over but still not to bad.)
