Project: Stygian

Time to get all official-like with the build of Stygian (yes thats the final name. And its cool! It's "hells underworld" lol)

Objectives:
- Powerhouse in an SSF
- Hybrid power for "green" use (disables the discrete graphics)
- OCing capable (and probable!)
- "How much can you stuff in there?"

Parts so far:
-XFX GF-8200 = Motherboards - GeForce Series - GeForceŽ 8200
Modifications: Un-shrouded Antec spotcool pointing at the VRM heatsinks, added 5x extra heatsinks using 3M thermal tape to the 5 exposed VRMs as well.
-AMD Phenom II 720BE - 4th core unlocked and running @ 3.2Ghz (for now) off stock cooling. Will be trying a Corsair H50 to cool this one with two fans in push/pull.
-G.Skill 4Gb PC2-8000 DDR2-1000Mhz. Planning to OC if possible.
-Enermax Modu82+ PSU. Dang this thing is small, but feels very solid is extremely quiet.
-Graphics? Not sure yet... more info soon.
-Storage: Corsair X64 SSD / WD 320Gb. Omgz i have an ssd, lol.

And it's all going into a Silverstone Sugo-03: SilverStone Technology Co., Ltd - Designing Inspiration

Some prelim pictures of the motherboard w/ added heatsinks coming soon. As well as more info on the choice of graphics card.

My hopes:
Crack 3.5-3.6Ghz in a box that's a quarter the size of Behemoth and less than half most full-towers.

Looking forward to pictures. That is one small case. Wonder what the temps will be...

CMetaphor August 11, 2009 11:38 AM

Current temps w/ all cores unlocked @ 3.2Ghz is 45 degree C using the slightly-better stock AMD cooler (the one that actually has two copper heatpipes but only a 70mm fan). I expect an awsome improvement... lol.

'Stygian' :

From the latin stygius ;

-Of , or relating to the river Styx.
-Dark , Gloomy .
-Hellish or infernal.

------

I'm interested in how that mobo performs.

Dark and hellish is exactly why I chose the name. Dark, because almost every component of the build is black or dark (Ex: Black PBC mobo, Black edition CPU, Black case, etc etc).... and because building a performance system into something so small and still have it OC is Hellish indeed! lol....

/Drool! NCIX blessedly got stock on the new Coolermaster R4s with 90cfm @ 19dba w/ blue Leds. For anyone that doesnt know what I'm talking about:
R4-L2R-20AC-GP - Cooler Master

I ordered 3x (2x in push/pull at the top of the Sugo-03 for the Corsair H50 and 1x on the bottom).

Now... my big question is... I'm thinking of using reversed airflow on this build. Im thinking ill exhaust the H50 and the case fan out the Front of the case, and intake from the side (meshed side panel) and the back (lots n lots of holes) to hopefully accomplish A) get some airflow over the VRMs to help the spotcool keep em cool and B) to exhaust the H50's warm out right out of the case.

Pictures will be coming probably on Monday/Tuesday when the H50 arrives. :thumb:

Wow those specs are a load of crap. I see them pushing 60-70CFM at 28-32DB. That's worse than SilenX!

It's entirely possible, but since it's right at the front of the case its more for looks :P lol. Still, I'm im not pleased with the performance of two of them on the H50 due to lack of static pressure, Ill replace the inside/intake fan of the push pull to something beefier (I think i still have a 38mm sunon somewhere, lol). time will tell...

Stygian Lives.

@ 12:40AM last night or so, Stygian lives. Managed to squeeze everything into the :censored: Sugo-03. Don't get me wrong... I love the case, but with the amount of stuff im trying to put in there, its rather on the insane side. Couldnt even use 2x fans in push/pull on the corsair H50. So using just one CM R4 120mm fan with all 4x cores unlocked @ 3.2Ghz Im idling at around 42 degrees, full load approx. 50 degrees. It's a little warmer than I wouldve liked... especially since I wanted to OC even more, but at least its stable. I'll start getting some pics up in the next few days so you all can understand the meaning of Cramped Space.

Till then...

My Sff build is very cramped as well. So I know what you mean.

Hows the cable management going? lol

Can I get a link to your psu?
