Ok !

I've started on the template :

-----

As you can see it's 6" wider than the actual arcade box.....I'll be fabricating a box to fit the controls , that will mesh with the case.....

edit : Any comments/suggestions about the control layout would be appreciated......Any ideas ?

something I liked about old arcade machines was the 6 buttons were on an angle (higher right side then left) always found the controls to be more comfortable that way

Hmmmm.....

Interesting....I'll look into that.

------------

Enaberif brought a good point to me on IRC......the green/white buttons should be above the joysticks.

I have to agree.

Main thing is comfort dude... if you stack the buttons beside the controllers different you'll have more room for the spinner. Cuz ya don't want that thing sitting on your wrist for the left side player.

Yes I'm trying out some different layouts...

The way I have the Spinner above the trackball is actually all measured out so if you are using the spinner , your wrist won't hit the trackball.....and niether player will be near it when in 2 player mode .

I'm going to try an angled button setup later today , but right now I'm working on the thinktank.

Ok.

I've done the first test board.

What an amazing lesson on ergonomics.

Here's the test setup , please note everything is cut 'big' , the control top is big by at least 3 or 4 inches......you can see the actual proposed cut marks.....The cuts into the cabinet are also big.......

-this is just to check stuff out.

The pencil circle is the proposed location of the spinner.....it's outta the way there.......We'll see tho , gotta double check the 'tron' game........

Thx !

------

Um.....it isn't for sale at any price.(my first one and all)

MAME boxes typically go for 1000-1500$ AFAIK....

Tell ya what , you can build your own for less than a grand tho ;
I've invested mebbie 600$ so far , and that includes everything I need except speakers.

used arcade cabinet : 100$
Controls : 450$
20 " CRT monitor : 20$
Computer to run everything : free

That also doesn't include time spent working on it........After I get it all painted etc , I'd say total of 750$ mebbie ?

Edit : working on it now , updates in a couple hours.
