My little brother is somewhere in Mexico, so I highly doubt that klaiboi is my little (too damn tall though) brother...

But if you need more silicone, let me know. I'm back at BA...

I think he was referring to the Thinktank 2.0, rather than to John.

Just a note to let you know I'm still watching, and thinking. I'll let you know if I have any more useless suggestions.

Could liquid cooling not be an option? I have a Coolit [PURE] I will donate for testing. Since it would be a contained unit the only issue you might run into is any kind of pressure in the case "could" Collapse lines. But as long as the inputs into the steel box are sealed it should maintain its pressure.

I also have that P35-DS3L+ E2160 you are welcome too, it could be underclocked to potentially run passively. I also have a 7200 PCI-E that runs passively. Also any bits and bobs of liquid gear sitting around, just send me a message if you need any parts.

Wow thanks guys ! I really appreciate the offers !!

S'all good.I'm going with what I have , that way I have replacement parts

----------

I went to the scrapyard today.End of winter is the worst time......the lot was nearly empty , and it was covered in 6" of liquid mud.Good thing I brought my boots.

No luck there.....I had a couple 'mebbies' but they were crushed or bent.
------------

So I decided to just go buy what I needed :

-----

-----

-----

That's a weatherproof , UL / NEMA approved , 'cutout box' ......for commercial electrical wiring......

It's 18"x18"x6".All steel construction , looks like 16 GA ...It has no precut 'punchouts'.
...Primer grey , the top comes with a seal and it comes with rubber coated washers for the 12 holes in it.Gastight no problem.

90 $.

--------

So now I need to start mounting stuff......I'm basically just going to mount the mobo , then start thermally connecting all the stuff to the case.

wouldn't the primer in that case impede the thermal transfer capabilities?

yep.

I'll be grinding it off where I want thermal connections.

----

Step 1 : mount the motherboard.

This is'nt as simple as it sounds.

A good portion of the thermal flow on a motherboard is through the motherboard itself......'Standoffs' are grossly underated.I'll be using pure copper handmade ' large' standoffs........maximum thermal transfer.

Major update time !!

I have achieved passive operation.

------------

I decided to try modifying a spec'd heatsink for these motherboards :

-------

After going through my copper ,

I decided to go from complete scratch.

Cut and sized , an exact match .

------

Sized on the mobo.....

--------

Top clamp plate sized and drilled , tapping etc done ;

------------

Clamp :

----

Machine operating In idle , :

------------

It overheated at 100% load , but it idles just fine.......no fans at all.

win !

Those copper strips connect to the case for thermal dissapation.

It's currently been on at idle for 2 hrs , at 47 C , with no fans . It'll easily run the 10% load I need it to...
