Default Antec Minuet 350 HTPC

My HTPC build is underway, here's the specs:

Quote:
Case: Antec Minuet 350
OS: Windows XP SP3 x86
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 @ 2.4GHz, 800MHz FSB
HSF: Stock Intel
Motherboard: ASUS P5KPL-AM SE
Power Supply: Included with Antec Minuet 350
Graphics Card: Sapphire HD4550 512M GDDR3 (LP) PCI-E
Memory: 3GB total DDR2 @ 667MHz (1 x 1GB; 1 x 2GB)
Hard Drives: System Drive: 80GB Western Digital Caviar (IDE) Recording/Media: 1TB WD GreenPower or Hitatchi (yet to be determined)
Optical Drives: LG DVD-RW (IDE)
I chose XP SP3 for something that's light on system resources.. but I also have Vista Home Basic should that be reccommended instead. Both are legally owned by me :)

The cpu and memory I already own from an older rig. 3GB of DDR2 667MHz, and a Core 2 Duo E4600 @ 2.4GHz should more than suffice for these categories, right? When I tear my old rig apart from downstairs, i'll post pics of the cpu and RAM.

The motherboard I picked because it fits all my necessary requirements:
Quote:
mATX, 1 x PCI-E slot, 2 x SATAII, LGA775 slot supporting 800MHz FSB (specifically the E4600), RAM support of 667MHz clock DDR2
It's also within a reasonable price range.

I've decided to go with the Sapphire HD4550 as it's a popular choice for HTPCs. It's low-profile, which means it'll fit inside the Antec Minuet 350, provided it comes with a half-size bracket I can affix it to. If not I guess I gotta purchase those separately.

I need a cheap 1TB HDD for media storage and recording.

I found a perfect TV tuner for my build: The Asus ES3-100 MyCinema 3in1. It fits all the specs I need:

Quote:
PCI-E (thus not limited by the 133mb/s cap on a PCI based card, letting me capture much higher quality videos), Low Profile (because my case is a half-bracket expansion case; i'll probably need to get the half brackets myself), digital/analog cable input, external video input (via S-Video), and a fair price.
Anyone disagree on that choice?

I've put Vista on my HTPC (Antec Fusion), but quickly downgraded to XP.

you said your mobo had 1 pci-e slot which means that you'd run into problems with a pci-e TV tuner and a HD4550 unless you ment 1x pcie 16x...

also I feel that HSF is a little overpriced....im guessing you couldn't fit something like a vendetta 2 or something cheaper eh?

Haha, it's a small little beast, but i love it. Right now i'm doing preparatory work by shoving in an old IDE DVD drive (since a DVD Drive won't be limited by the IDE bus). Unfortunately, i'm also going to have to use an 80GB WD drive (IDE) as the main drive until i can get something better, as i'm aiming to get this thing up and running tomorrow.

And i guess i'm just going to stick with the stock cooler, for simplicity's sake. I also have a 40mm fan i found to stick at the back of the case :P

Also, about the slots... it has one PCI-E slot, and one graphics PCI-E slot.

The HTPC is up and running! The specs are a little different than intended, and it's only working, not fully completed.

The front drive assembly; an LG DVD-RW drive and a Western Digital Caviar 80GB drive. The HDD actually ended up getting moved to the bottom of the drive chassis. This is only the system drive, a second HDD is being added for recording and media storage.

The motherboard I ended up getting is the Asus P5KPL-AM SE. I have nothing but love for ASUS boards so far.

I stuck the E4600 processor I recycled from my old computer into this. I also put in the Apacer/Kingston combo 3GB RAM duo I had in it. (667MHz)

I loaded the motherboard into the Minuet 350, and connected all the necessary wires, besides the drive cables.

I shoved in the front drive assembly, and connected all necessary wires, and did some form of cable management in the process. I booted 'er up, and so far, everything seems to be running smoothly (except the cpu temps are a little off--idles at about 45C, and core 1 is always hotter than core 0)

Parts left to get: A cheap 1TB SATAII HDD for storage and recording; probably a Hitatchi or WD GreenPower, an HD 4550 low-profile PCI-E card, and the Asus ES3-100 MyCinema 3in1 PCIe TV Card. The project should be complete by the end of the week.

I also found a wicked desktop background for it:
