Default Project: All Right

Lucille: How's my son?
Doctor: He's going to be all right.
Lindsay Funke: Finally some good news from this guy.
George Michael Bluth: There's no other way to take that.
Doctor: That's a great attitude. I got to tell you, if I was getting this news, I don't know that I'd take it this well.
Lucille: But you said he was alright.
Doctor: Yes, he's lost his left hand. So he's going to be "all right."
Lucille: You son of a bitch. I hate this doctor.
Lindsay Funke: How do we keep getting this guy?
Michael: Mom, he's a very literal man.
Doctor: Yes, that's more the way I would take the news.

Well then, now that you know where I got the project name from, let's move on. (If you didn't get it, it's in reference to the flipped orientation of the case.) The parts...

The system:
Intel D5400XS "Skulltrail" motherboard
16GB (4x4GB) FB-DIMM DDR2-800 (I wanted 32GB, but I couldn't afford the $2500 price tag, and I don't know if ST even supports beyond 16GB)
2x Intel E5330 Clovertown quad-core CPUs
OCZ EliteXStream 1000

That's right, fellas. Dumping the i7 system and going back to Skulltrail.

The rest:
Feser Tube 3/8" ID, 1/2" OD (Silver)
Bitspower "Black Sparkle" 90 degree 1/2" barbs (on rad) x2
Bitspower "Dark Nickel-plated" 1/2" barbs (on blocks/pump) x6
Feser One X-360 Triple Xchanger rad
XSPC X2O 400 res with submerged pump
D-Tek FuZion CPU blocks (v1) x2

and the pièce de résistance, the Tagan Black Pearl.

It'll be going in for powder coating. Haven't decided whether I will do a black or dark metallic red yet. Here's a quick mock-up I threw together in Photoshop. It won't look like this, really. I stole this pic from lowfat's Black Pearl worklog and colored it. Mine will still have the hard drive bays and won't have a triple rad in the middle, it'll be at the top or rear. And the colors are not precise, it'll most likely be a different shade of one of these:

Doing some more mocking up, getting a feel for what to powder coat. Here's a couple of ideas I had if I go with red on the inside:

Not sure if I like the red drive bay covers. I will probably just avoid touching the exterior colors, they look great as-is.

That's probably it for now. More when the parts start arriving. Thinking about integrating a sort of "waterfall" into the window. All I'd need is another thin sheet of clear plastic, cut to the window size with threaded holes for barbs, then held together ~5mm apart with silicone or something. Would probably hinder cooling, but it'd look badass. Quick mock-up of that idea:

i like the red on the inside, and leaving the drive covers black. The waterfall would be cool. What about putting it on its own "loop"? Just get a cheap pump, and use that, you wouldn't need a rad or anything. If you didn't, i could see the waterfall as being a huge flow killer.

Well S_G, Red's my fav color. So the drive bays only colored in Red I think does stand out, espcially kind of metallic color.

Oh and like did you copy lowfat's design lol!!.. I just gave you the link for reference, now he's gonna come after me :D

Gr8 work though.. Can't wait to see your temps with that Feser rad, it's supposed to be pretty good.

Yeah, I'm kind of split myself. I like the red because it makes the case stand out immediately, just by glancing at it. On the other hand, it kind of feels out of place, which is why I like the standard black. Alternatively, I could line the backs of the drive covers with red LEDs, which would emit a "glowing" effect through the cracks of the drive bays.

Probably a little too difficult to accomplish, as I'd need to find the right color, and there's no real guarantee that it would glow evenly around the edges, so I will stick to either red or black.

And no, haha, I didn't copy lowfat's design. I just needed a picture of the frame that I could color, so I used lowfat's, because it was the easiest one to use. As I explained in my first post, mine won't actually look as pictured. I won't be adding a rad in the middle, and I won't be removing the 3.5" drive trays.

What if I had the fittings angled upwards/downwards respectively, and increased the spacing of the acrylic window to 1cm? That should alleviate most of the flow interference.

Also, after thinking about it, it won't be a waterfall. Because the radiator will be at the top of my system, it is likely that the entire window will covered by water. For there to be any air in the window, the window would have to be the highest part of my loop, and what you'd really see is the pumped water flowing through it, like in an aquarium.
