Default Breathing Life into an old Build

Well, with my work station full downstairs, I still decided to fix an Old build that came to me.
In many many boxes sat parts, pieces, no manuals, and some small glimmer of hope that perhaps put together it might work.
So, I toiled a bit, and managed to get this old beast living again.
And, with the addition of a spare optical drive, video card , Power supply.
It lives...once more. I have no idea what I will do with it, but I'm sure I'll find something useful.

Stats are:

ASUS MB (can't remember which one, will edit this)
AMD (the first ever in my house) Opteron X2 2.0Ghz , Socket 939 90nm
2GIG of Mushkin DDR Dual Channel PC3200 @ 400Mhz
1 x WD Raptor , 150GB
1 x ATI Radeon 9250 PCI , 256Meg
1 x LG DVD-ROM
1 x Power-up 450W PSU
ULTRA Luminaris Case
CPU Cooler is, Zalman CNPS9000 Series
2 x Aerocool 120mm Fans
1 x Vantec Spectrum Slot Fan
1 x Ultra 80mm Red LED Fan

Might actually make use of this for a bit.

Look to me like it's an ASUS A8N32-SLI, if I am reading the fourth character right.

Pretty awesome to have found some spare parts to work with! You could use it as a Home Server or something...just add a bunch of drives in RAID 5 or something...

Most of the parts were donated to me for Fixing a New system that was really bugged and out of wack.
This system was DOA to me, but a few parts made it live yet again.
I was thinking I'd find some more Mushkin (gotta be cheap, its old memory) , I haven't actually loaded the ATI drivers on it yet (Can I do this on a nVidia chipset? I've never used nVidia).
I have to reseat the HSF, and put some OCZ freeze on it, its posting 41degree Idle Temps in CoreTemp...
Unless the CNPS9000 was just a Junk HSF.

But yeah, I could do lots of little things with it.
Once I get my MicroRepeater installed and I can split my Highspeed , I'll hook this one to the Net and Fold with it too. Maybe, if this processor can hack it, I can OC it, with some help from here!

Haven't quite figured out How to OC it yet.
I reseated the HSF with OCZ Freeze Last night, whatever was on there before was like glue. That was, the worst and most annoying cleanup job I've ever had to do.
Mind you, for a Old Generation Zalman Cooler, the base was mirror finished underneath.
Originally it was posting 41 degrees for idling, now it posts 28. I don't think its the TIM that helped that much, I don't think it was seated right, combined with the ultra thick layer of old TIM as well....

I have to boards Manual here , I've just gotta read the OC forum and see how the heck I can get this beast to start screaming :)

Once you get it going probably be just fine for general use.
You aren't losing money on a hugely depreciable product if paid to much used or bought a new system.

Those 939 chips were excellent chips. I still use my FX-60 (939) system as my game server/folder/HTPC machine (see my signature). It works great and has more than enough power to for all of this at the same time. Even under full load (GPU folding, recording shows and servering games) the CPU usuage is minimal. Also, check on ebay, you can sell that chip for a pretty penny. I looked at my FX-60 and they are going for $300 - $500 for the chip by itself! Dual core 939 chips are rare and in high demand because everybody with a 939 board wants to upgrade from a single core to a dual core so that they can breath more life into their old systems.

I'm not sure I'd want to sell the chip, as the parts were all a gift...somewhere in my morality meter...it doesn't seem like a good idea lol.

But ya never know, I might migrate my old E4700 to this case with its Gigabyte board and practice on that instead.

This is, my First AMD....Ever. I've been Intel since its inception.
I would like to use this system to practice OC'ing, and maybe practice WC'ing as well (the only WC stuff I've used has been 'kits' from TT) .

We will see, I"m happy that it got up and running again, I should've taken pictures of how it looked before I touched it ( just imagine taking all the parts you see, and randomly throwing it into one big box).
