Default Transition from a 5 year old PC to a bran spankin new one

Old
P4 @2.66ghz
Unknown MSI mobo
DDR1 512x1 256x1 ram @400mhz
40GB hard drive
Random no name brand optical drive
Nvidia Geforce4 MX 440 gpu
MS Windows XP SP3
1 exhaust fan which is currently taped ontop of the cpu headsink.
No name PSU
Stock heatsink

New
C2D E8400
Asus P5Q Pro
G.SKILL DDR2 2x2GB PC28000
250GB Hard drive
LG optical drive
HIS 4870
Windows Vista Home Premium 64BIT OEM
Two Coolermaster blue LED Fans
Xigmatek heatsink w/ thermalright bolt thru kit
Corsair TX550W

and some pictures

My setup. I should replace the old KB...but it's fine for now.

The stuff I ordered. what you don't see is the OS, optical drive, hard drive, thermal paste, two fans and the case.

Now for my old POS PC..though I still love it.

And for my new one

all in all, it was fun building a PC for the first time. had a few problems installing the mobo and heatsink but they were solved thanks to those who responded to my threads. I'd especially like to thank SS Wilson( I think that's how you spell it) who donated 250 NCIX points so I could use the free shipping option.

Fan is on the wrong side of the heatsink. needs to go on the other side to be properly effective. And then turn it so that the power cable is towards the motherboard and wrap it up neatly.

Also you should run your 8 pin power cable underneath the motherboard to hide it.

Same goes for the fan power cable on the top.. put it under the motherboard too.

oh and you might as well not use the rear speakers of your 5.1 setup as they aren't going to really accomplish much anyways, unless you plan to set them up behind you.

Not necessarily on the wrong side. You can use the fan in pull. It just needs to be flipped.

Dude...why do you have to say stuff in such a nasty way? Help the guy out instead of being a cynical and sarcastic about it.

Nice build!
I like the case, it looks sleek and silent but hides the monter machine inside.

Hopefully you get the RAM soon to give it a good burn in on your first weekend!

Regards,
ST

Ah-ah-ah-choo that P4 is dusty;)

Looking Good though.

Betch cant wait EH?

If you have the time it could use some better cable managment but I am just being critical, I dont like messy wires.

I'm starting to think i wont be receiving my ram tomorrow. I just tracked my shipment on the UPS site and it's still stuck at "origin scan". no update since the 5th and it says it's suppose to come tomorrow.
