Default BALISTX'S 939 Project

BALISTX'S 939 PROJECT

Well I figured I would start documenting this build since I got some parts in. The more parts that come in the more I get excited. This is my first 939 build and yes I do plan on overclocking it.

I would like to apologize for the crappy picture quality as I used my camera phone.

Here we have a group shot of the parts I have so far. As you can see we got the motherboard, CPU, hard drive, optical drives and sound card.

Next is a shot of the motherboard.
This is the DFI LANParty UT Ultra-D that has been SLI Modded and using OCZ Tony's from DIY-Stret Modded BIOS v704-2bt that I bought from fellow HCer Eldonko.

Up next is the AMD Opteron 144 1.80GHz Venus (CAB2E 0548FPMW) that I purchased from Supergrover. He was able to get it to 2.7Ghz on stock cooling. I'm hoping I can beat that.

Here is a shot of the SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio that I picked up on sales at NCIX for $39.99 on sale. I had it the next day. That's impressive since it was shipped from BC to Ontario. Gotta love air shipping.

Now for the donor parts from old PC.

First up is the hard drive. It's a Western Digital Caviar SE 80GB 7200 rpm 8MB cache EIDE drive that will be reformatted with a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro SP2.

Here are the optical drives. They are a LG 16X DVD-ROM and a HP 16X DVD±RW drive w/ Lightscribe that I got for Christmas one year from my wife.

Those are the parts so far. I still have to get the video card, memory, heatsink and power supply. The build when done should look like this.

DFI LANParty UT nF4 Ultra-D SLI Modded (BIOS 704-2bt)
AMD Operton 144 Venus (CAB2E 0548FPMW)
Zalman 9500 Heatsink
2 x OCZ Platinum XTC 1GB PC-3200 (OCZP4002GK)
EVGA 7900 GS KO 256MB PCI-E x16 (Drivers 93.71)
SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio (Drivers 1.04.0064)
WD Cavair SE 80GB 7200rpm 8MB EIDE
LG Black 16X DVD-ROM IDE
HP Black 16X DVD±RW IDE w/ Lightscribe
Nmedia MP-500 500 Watt

The case is still up in the air as the one I have although it looks nice it doesn't have the right setup for proper airflow IMO.

I will be updating this as more parts come in and the build begins. Please feel free to make any comments or suggestion.

Did you dl a copy of T-Mod's bios disk?

It might come in handy depending on what ram you end up with.

Are you going to be running the OCZ in your sig?

The 704 big toe is optimised for OCZ mem.

Yep I'm gonna run the 2 x OCZ Platinum XTC 1GB PC-3200 (OCZP4002GK). The price on them is not bad at all. Regular Price $209.09 at Infonec Computers

I thought you had the 704-2bt already on the board. My mistake. I will try out the BIOS version you already have in there. Did you have the ram in the orange or yellow slots?

Either work but the orange slot closest to the cpu socket is strongest for clocking mem so you can gain a few more mhz of you put the weaker of the two ram sticks in there. And for the bios, Im not 100% sure its the bigtoe mod, (havent used the board since last fall) just check the post screen or cpuz to find out for sure. If you are looking for any other bios let me know, I have loads of em saved including some cool modded ones (merlin and hellfire).
