My System Specs

Default So, I had a busy weekend...

I received some new parts this week, and spent the weekend building, testing, and upgrading. I posted a thread a week or two ago, about what upgrades I should do, and as listed there I went for the E8500, and a HIS 4870. This replaced my aging E6400, and Sapphire 1950GT. A much needed upgrade, as I've had both since they were brand spanking new and top of the line .

First though, because of the upgrades, it left me with enough old parts to put together a media PC. Now, a heads up, as we still have one of those ancient tube TV's and therefore I don't really need to worry about high def stuff, so this should do. Seeing my desk like this seems to be a common occurrence.

Do the new CPU's run that much cooler, or is Intel getting cheap? Please excuse the dirty worktable, and TF2 doodles .

So, I came up with this, and it works great! I just need to add the PVR350, and set that all up.
  • E6400
  • AsRock DualVSTA (absolute POS!!!)
  • ATI Radeon 9250 (lol)
  • 1Gb of Generic DDR

Now on to the fun stuff...

Here is the inside of my 590 (Before):

Some new stuff :

Bare bones fun!

Mounted:

And, finally, what I ended up with.
  • CM 590
  • DFI LP DK P45
  • Silverstone Element 500
  • E8500 @ 3.6
  • 4Gb G.Skill DDR2, 800
  • HIS 4870
  • and a bunch of hard drives...
All the threads I read while reseraching the 4870 talked about how hot it ran, and I though it was a bit of an exageration, but man THIS THING RUNS HOT! It has since been fixed with the fan profile xml edit, but damn 75+ degrees idle WTF?!

Anyways, thanks for reading... oh, can I remove the full size attached images?

Thanks everyone! I haven't had the time to get too in depth with this board yet, I probably get around to it next weekend. CPU wise, it is running nice and cool, and under full load (p95) it maxed out around 54 degrees (idles around 22). Confirmed with realtemp.

I'm pretty amazed by the MX2 paste. It seems to have made a 2-3 degree difference, as advertised. Worth the $4 for sure.

3DMark06 score of 15788, I think that is pretty normal for the 4870, and my cpu configuration.

Love the doodles!

Love the DFI too! I like how the rounded cable worked out before -- no need for it now.

I am also curious of the NB temps (not the cpu). I have a Dark P35, and the NB temps are pretty high with the strap and o/c I am running (E2180). I am wondering if they would drop with a faster FSB cpu (diff strap) and of course the heatpipe system in the P45 should be better. You should be able to delve the north bridge temp with DFIs Smart Guardian or Everest Ultimate demo.

Mine idles at around 30C and loads around 46C currently (room is quite cold).

Hmmm, you should pick up a Fortron Sparkle 400W for the HTPC system, that Best Power scares the hell out of me! The AssRock may be a POS, but you want to protect everything else!
