Default First Ever Computer Build

Hello all,

You may remember me, I asked lots of questions on here about my new build. Well, I just got the parts in the mail, and I thought someone might like to see my progress as I go, not to mention offer advice if they spot anything :)

I don't have the cable to hook up my camera quite yet, but I will soon. The first round of pictures is forthcoming: Unpacking.

Ok, first question. I have an aftermarket CPU cooler and Arctic Silver 5 thermal grease. It says I need to clean the CPU and the heatsink with high-purity
isopropyl alcohol. What is this/where can I find it?

Usually any drug store (rubbing alcohol). Watch for the purity though as some is diluted with water. You want to have as pure an alcohol content as you can. Here's a link.

Cleaning RAMchips and other surfaces

You can find a lot of answers by using the search feature here on the forum.

I'll answer that ..

Isopropanol is the purest, cheapest commercially available alcohol.

AKA ' isopropyl alcohol , IPA , 'rubbing alcohol' can generally be found at pharmacies....

You want 99% IPA . do not use the standard 'rubbing alcohol , it's only 70% and has other crap in it.

All right, I have 91% rubbing alcohol and coffee filters . . . I think I'm good to start assembly!

well, a pink eraser is hte best and simplest method. Your not cleaning the headers of a F1 race car after all. Theres not going to be anything that you need to get carried away over.
