Default cheap htpc nvidia card

Real cheap, hopefully. It's to tide me over. I prefer smth GT 440 and up - if possible.

Any suggestions? The GT 220/240s are too old, right?

I think they were calling the GT430, the new HTPC king, when they were reviewing it. If it is for HTPC duty alone works flawlessly. GT440 would be for some light gaming too. I had a GT430, if you have a C2D or a Phenom would play games fine at 720p.

I am using a GT 430 for my HTPC/Media File Server. I have no problems with it.

I would get something newer though. The 500+ supports 4K decoding if you are wanting that.

Thanks for the info! Actually, a gtx 650 looks good - if I can find one for $60 - $70. Is that reasonable/doable?

I noticed that some go for almost that on ebay and a few sold for that but they were from U.S. citizens. With import fees, they were a bit over $70. Is that a good deal? Only a few went for under that, though (past bids/sales).

For a HTPC/Server (Running 24/7), I would get a Video Card that is Passively Cooled.

Check this ebay seller (nmicrovip on eBay) for some good deals. They have some passive gpus ie: 210/520 and amd ones.

passive video cards for HTPC... Noise or lack there of is everything on HTPC in my humble opinion.
