I am currently looking for 1 GTX 580, looking to spend around 400$

More like had it with AMD and their poor drivers, wanting to do a slight upgrade from my previous go with nVidia (only downside was lack of vRAM for the 560 Ti 1GBs).

I do own two MSI GTX570 cards and have thought about getting different cards with more vram. At 2560X1440 1280MB does not seem to be enough. Thing is I do not really feel like I have any good options in terms of finding reasonable priced replacement cards. A GTX580 cost a lot more and only have 256MB more ram. I am left with waiting for new NVidia cards and those may be months away. I take it you are not willing to wait till then....?

I can't stand my 6970s and they are essentially going out the door. I could see what the performance of 2 9800GX2s are for gaming, but I'd like to sit on something that can run my beloved 3 monitors for gaming.

570's will not really do for that kind of res no? I mean I am much lower res than you and think that I am out of vram... also are you selling your 6970's?

I'm hoping to find used over buying new for the most part really. I've done the 580 3GB, its mostly a money grab and not worth it.
