I was using it with a mild overclock : 2.6 Ghz. I want my computer to be quiet so I didn't want to have to increase the speed of the fans to cope with the increased temperature of the CPU.

You can probably overclock it more because that model is known to be a good overclocker:

If all you want is get the maximum overclock possible out of a cheap CPU then yes, you could get a Celeron. However, if you want 4 MB of cache and still get a good overclock, then you could get a CPU like mine
