Does this cold bug affect the entire line of 5xxx cards? That would explain a whole lot with my card, as the temps rarely went up past 60 under load and usually hovered at the 50ish mark with stock cooling, but I couldnt OC my card even a single mhz.

Not sure if it affects the whole 58XX line. So far it seems to affect the 5970 line when watercooled and temps are below the 40c mark. It's a crap shoot for which ones have the cold bug as it doesn't matter which brand you choose.
This cold bug has no effect with overclocking, even at default speeds the cold bug will rear its ugly head.
