Yeah, the boards ain't cheap. If you are interested in pricing out a rig, though, you'd be looking for the Supermicro X8QBE-F or the X8QB6-F. FWIW, I bought my board from NCIX, but PM'd from here. Quicksilver's still alive and well - just undergoing a few upgrades currently is all. As for Skulltrail, no - that's just a toy. Like Kevin Spacey's Firebird in American Beauty.

"Intel Skulltrail with dual-QX9775's, the computer I always wanted and now I have it. I rule!"

80 cores would have limited utility on Windows due to the 64-thread limit per process, but any Ubuntu release as of 10.04 can natively scale up to 256 threads per process. Scaling efficiency is not so good when the kernel is left to its own devices, but when using thekraken wrapper scaling is about 99% efficient in terms of kernel timing and 97% efficient in terms of tpf performance, which is excellent.

In terms of performance for these particular chips, my average ppd was...

X7560's
- P8101 = 295k
- P8102 = 425k

E7-8860's
- P8101 = 410k
- P8102 = 600k

Added an Opteron 6134. Sorry, only have the one.

Some spicy 6200-series Opterons coming in a few days...
