Well, what's your intent?

The 750 is great if gaming is your primary concern, but if you're doing a lot of heavily-multithreaded apps, the 860 might be worth it. 750 for gaming, 860 for video-editing, etc. 870 is just about never worth it; price / performance is terrible compared to the 860 and it doesn't even have an unlocked multiplier.

And even if you don't get a supercrazyawesomesuce one, they will go to about 4.2 most of the time (assuming you have proper cooling of course).

Well, the 750 is as cheap as it's gonna get. They're usually around $200, but you might be able to price-match down a bit. Also, selling the 1156 mobo is pretty stupid in my opinion; why buy it, then sell it and lose money? I'd say just commit to the upgrade and sell the 775. Q6600s can get a pretty good price.

how big of a hurry are you to get an i5 chip? Im planning on getting a new cpu right after xmas (hoping to get a boxing day sale) then I could sell mine off for cheap.

The new i5/i3 coming in 2010 1Q will be hyper-threaded and likely cheaper too with the move to 32/45 nm package. So it's probably worthwhile to wait.
