4870 have to have heatsinks on EVERY hotspot when running aftermarket coolers. If you sit a fan in front of your card blowing on the area with all the chips and it does not artifact, you do not have adequate cooling from the Accelero on the chips. (not the gpu itself) There are little LED's on the back of the card that will light up if you have a problem and one of them indicates overheating. There are numbers on the pcb coinciding with the LED's and you can google to find out the meaning of the numbered LED that lights up.(if any) The way I determined how to place heatsinks when I had a 4870 with an aftermarket cooler was to feel the back of the card while it was running and put a heatsink on the other side for every hotspot I felt. I ended up putting WAY more heatsinks on than recommended but that did the trick.
