[WTB] Parts for a budget gaming PC

The Mrs gave me the go ahead to order parts to build a new machine for my Christmas present (yay!), so before looking at NCIX/DirectCanada I figured I'd ask around here & see if anyone had any goodies laying around.

I'm currently running an old Dell P4 2.6, so pretty much anything will be an upgrade
Mostly playing games like CoD4/5, Diablo III (when it eventually comes out), Company of Heroes, World in Conflict etc. Playing in a 19" widscreen LCD.

I will be keeping my 8800GTX & 550W PSU, and will probably grab an Antec 300 new for the case, but I'll need:

CPU (prefer dual core 2.4 or higher)
No preference on AMD or Intel, but I was originally looking at E8400's, E7200's, AMD X2 550BE etc. Not sure how Q6600's stack up to them at gaming, but if they're close I'm open to that too.

Motherboard to go with whatever CPU I end up getting.

RAM - either 2gb or 4gb (probably 4 since I'll grab a copy of Windows 7 when it comes out) Depending on the MB this can be DDR2 or DDR3 - I'm not too worried either way.

Hard Drive. 500gb would be plenty big enough for me.

I think that's about it for now. I'll probably also end up grabbing some kind of air cooler for the CPU to overclock it a bit, so if you have a CPU/cooler combo that'll work too.

Budget for CPU/MB/RAM/HD is around $300

Hopefully I'll finally be able to get around to installing that X-fi I grabbed from Jackquelegs a year or so ago!
