the Raptor will be good as your OS and to run your audio software and record with. But you will need a Large drive for storage as Audio recording will eat up 150gb in a hurry.

Like Squeetard said. Any remotely high-quality audio capture will gobble up that space quickly. If you really want speed, I say try two 1TB Caviar Black drives in RAID0, or 4 drives (for 2TB) in RAID0+1 for data redundancy.

Also, 700W is excessive for your build though. Anything 500W or more will do. As for the sound card, M-Audio has quite a few external solutions:
M-AUDIO - PCI Audio Interfaces
M-AUDIO - FireWire Audio Interfaces
M-AUDIO - USB Audio Interfaces

Good luck with your build though!

i have a good question, should the wait for X58 and Nehalem be justified ?

Certainly not for gaming - but for your audio work, quite likely Nehalem will be better suited to that sort of work.

But - this is Intel's first foray into integrated memory controllers, and I fully expect there to be some hickups and glitches at first. Personally speaking, I will have nothing to do with Nehalem at launch.
