Default Speaker Advice

Well I'm finally able to pick up some speakers for my desktop, but I've been out of the game a long time not quite sure what to look for.

I'd like to stay around/under 100$ and more or less stick at NCIX (gift card). Had my surround sound hooked up to it until this summer, and prior to that I was using Logitech X530s about 4 or 5 years ago (which have been in use still by my parents to this day).

Z506

Total RMS power
  • 75 watts RMS
  • Satellites: 48 watts RMS (2 x 8 W front, 16 W center, 2 x 8 W rear)
  • Subwoofer: 27 watts RMS
  • Total peak power: 150 watts
  • Frequency response: 45 Hz–20 kHz
$75 seems fair but I can't vouch for sound quality

Z623 for $20 more and less speakers if your real estate is limited plus tone control

Technical Specifications

  • THX Multimedia Certification
  • 200 watts (RMS)
  • Two 3.5 mm inputs
  • One pair of RCA inputs
  • Headphone output
  • Controls integrated in the right satellite—Power, Volume, and Bass controls

I've been running a set of the 506's for quite some time and don't have any complaints, but then again, I'm typically not playing music through them as that's done by my receiver.

I found the Creative Inspire 5.1's a definite upgrade from my old X-530's in terms of sound quality.

Edifier has amazing bang for your buck when it comes to computer speakers. I've heard their more expensive setup and was extremely impressed by what I head. Easily blows away anything Logitech produces. Not sure about the lower end models but worth considering.

I don't know about all the products in Edifier's line, but they do have some very nice quality speakers I have looked at before.

Edifier is a good brand. I don't like logitech as I always found the sound was lacking.

All I can suggest is staying away from Logitech... they charge a lot more than they are worth IMO. Good speakers need to be a little bit big at least, it's just a matter of physics.

What about something like this?

http://products.ncix.com/detail/kant...92668-1702.htm

http://products.ncix.com/detail/audi...k-57-91933.htm

Granted both are above your budget, but a bit more favourable with PP pricing.

I believe both offer the option to add a sub too if you need more low-end.

I don't have a dedicated sound card, so very high end speakers will be lost of me, and outside of my budget too.
