Default USB DAC + Amp?

Hey guys, looking to get my hands on a USB DAC with good audio quality for my new cans.

I'm in milwaukee at the mo so something from best buy or the like would be ideal.

Just got the 558's from Sennheiser.. Will I need an amp to drive them (no experience with USB DAC's)

If so I'd love something I can use on the go as well as at my lappy / pc.

Budget is probably about $200 all in (if warranted), ideally though no more than $100

If you're looking for something with good bang for buck, take a look at the FiiO E10 for starters. Start reading some reviews, and you'll pick up on a bunch of other devices in that price/quality range. If you're actually looking to spend $200, there are a crap ton of options (Schiit, audioengine, nuforce, etc.)

Traveling Companions: Headphone Amps from FiiO, iFi, and Miniwatt | Sound & Vision

AudioQuest DragonFly USB DAC | Sound & Vision

Those are nice mid to hig-end choices.

Dragonfly looks good. Built in headphone amp too.. v1.2 seems much better too.

Using a Fiio e07k here. Seems like a nice piece of equipment and sounds clean. So far only thing I don't like is that bass/treble is only adjustable in 2dB steps which kind of makes that 'feature' all but useless.

The Schiit Magni & Modi combo get fantastic review on Head-Fi.org. I am actually in the midst of tracking a set down if I can find someone who is willing to ship to Canada.

I use the fiio e09k amp and the e07 dac as a combo, not something your going to get from best buy though. Price and quality - exceptional IMHO. Should be a place near u that sell's fiio though or get it shipped otherwise. The e07 u can use on its own for your phone idea as an amp/dac, when set back into the e09 it's amp takes over and is more powerful and the e07 acts as the dac only then. You get both desktop and portable from the combo...

The OP is a little old now, but if budget allows, I can highly recommend the O2/ODAC unit to anyone looking for a headphone amp/dac. It basically started as a kind of counterpoint to some of the absurd audiophile snake oil floating around, and is VERY highly regarded. Lots of power, even for high impedance headphones, dead silent background, and trouble-free plug and play. You can build it yourself, but there are several companies floating around who will assemble it professionally for you. It's my current rig, it gave my old $800 setup the boot, and its been driving my Senn HD650's with flair it for the last half year.

I have a XonarU3. Its 1 inch by 2inches and I like the sound out of it. Its does not have an EQ or a volume nob.

Its major points are portability. and good sound.

using PC 360 with it.

EDIT: Had to use CD to get to the toys. I just did it.
