Looking for a new pair of 2.1 speakers
Wanted to know if there's any good pair of speakers. My local computer store recommended this but it's a bit pricey for me: http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=049220
Does anyone have any suggestions which is not as pricey but still very good. I'm trying to find new speakers that aren't tinny and have good sound and bass reproduction. My target budget is $50-80.
Ones I've been looking at are these:
Edifier M3300SF 2.1 Speaker Set 54W RMS Black
Logitech Z523 Speaker System 2.1 40W RMS Black
I'm going to be in the area of the local Canada Computers store on Friday so it's preferred to get it from there, but I wouldn't mind getting any other suggestions from other Canadian stores.
If there aren't any good ones in the $50-80 range, I wouldn't mind paying the same price as the Soundsticks III. Any other suggestions for the $130 price range would also be accepted.
Are these any good? Edifier S330D 2.1 Speaker Set 72W RMS High Gloss Black Piano Finish Digital & Analog Input
How about these?: Canada Computers | Speakers | Logitech Z623 (980-000402) -- 2.1 Speaker System - 200 Watts THX Certified (Retail Box)
I had the S330D, they were the best speakers I've used. Although it was much cheaper back then, like $80. But the size was a bit on the big side, so I had to downsize to some smaller Edifiers, which still sound decent for $25, but I could definitely use an upgrade. Kinda weird how the price goes UP for something so old...
i have the z623 myself and its a great speaker system. I actually got the refurb version from CC for $79.99 and they have been perfect sound quality wise. here they are Canada Computers | Speakers | Logitech Z623 (980-000402) -- 2.1 Speaker System - 200 Watts THX Certified (Refurbished) if your worried about refurbs, grab the 1 or 2 year extended warranty.
I know these are above your stated price range, I bought them last summer, and they are worth every penny if you can manage them. I was patient and got them for 159 + taxes ... You could easily use these for a home media center system from your PC as well. They have a surprising amount of power and clarity. There are lots of reviews out there, all positive, and user reviews have these rated at the 90% range
An unboxing on these forums:
Hardwarecanucks doesn't have a review of these speakers yet, but there are lots around the web...

If you have the time before you buy yet, every now and then, google search 'Buy Corsair SP2500 canada'
The lowest price I found atm was at the store you posted, for 179.99 atm(that's a really good price for these) - most stores retail them at 250.00 +
In the lower price ranges, I have a friend that have used the Logitechs you listed, and they are pretty reasonable sounding speakers.
So between the Edifier S330D and the Logitech Z623, which one is better? Does the Z623 have good bass? I read from a review where the S330D's bass was weak yet many others say it's a great choice. I don't like my music being flat so... I'm at a lost as to which one to get...
Bass should NEVER be the sole purpose of buying speakers. You should look for clarity within the speakers and the bass to be a compliment.
i like the bass in the z623s. you can't really compare a 72w system with a 200w system anyhow. One thing, i find the better quality music ie. FLAC, 320kb/s MP3 sound better than lower quality stuff, i personally have most of my collection in FLAC and its sounds amazing.
i always love how some ppl try to FORCE their opinions on others and flat out say that others are wrong.
We were actually comparing Realtek ALC's over on TPU forums and the 898 is actually very good compared to lower/mid end sound cards. And if you can't tell the difference between 128kb/s mp3s and 800-900 kb/s FLAC encoded songs, something is wrong with your ears...
Many people can hear the diff on poor quality speakers. Not everyone has the ear for it. 128kb/s isn't even cd quality (16 bit , 44 khz ~ 700kb/s), it sounds like garbage to me, even on speakers that have a really bad range.
