Best 2.1 speakers for $150
I'm on the fence regarding the following three choices in 2.1 speakers all in the ballpark of $150 CAD.
1) Klipsch Promedia 2.1
2) Corsair SP2500
3) Logitech Z623
I'm really not an audiophile by any stretch but I do like crisp clean sound while I'm gaming or watching movies in my computer room. I looked into 5.1 sound systems but truthfully I don't really have the inclination to wire speakers all over the place nor do I think I need surround sound or booming base from some beast of a subwoofer. Crisp, clean sound in a somewhat small form factor is what I'm after. If you have other suggestions or experience with any of my top choices please let me know what you think. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I have the sp2500's but I prefer the promedia. Haven't heard the Logitech.
I liked the Klipsch Promedia so much that I bought a second pair within weeks after buying the first. They are GREAT speakers. They are built to last and the bass is exceptional for the money. Probably the best bass I've ever owned. I can assure you that the Promedia set is the way to go.
You just missed the Harman Kardon SoundSticks III for $129 at Compu2000. They're back up to $179 but maybe Compu2000 will do something for you if you ask. By 2.1 desktop system standards the Soundsticks are extremely clear, distortion free to loud volumes, and have a tight and controlled bass. I've only heard better desktop sound out of monitors. Plus they look cool. I have the IIs myself.
SP2500 hands down.
Thank you for the recomendation YukonTrooper the Harman Kardon SoundSticks III were on my short list before but I discounted them as I didn't really like the look of them but in retrospect I've reconsidered because this is about sound fidelity and not aesthetics.
1) Klipsch promedia 2.1 ($178)
2) Harman Kardon SoundSticks III ($169)
3) Corsair SP2500 ($189)
I think these 3 choices are well within my budget if on sale which none of them currently are. I'm in no rush so I'll keep my eye open as I've seen each of these in the recent past lower by $30. I'm leaning more towards the Klipsch to be perfectly honest but availability is limited and these are getting long in the tooth seeing as they premiered over 10 years ago.
Another vote for the Klipsch ProMedia. I absolutely love my set.
I use the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 set.
I've spent some time with the Logitech competitor (Z-2300) but the Klipsch have clearly superior satellite speakers in my view.
I'd vote for the corsairs as well. Mine have been great so far, clear high end, mids are well controlled and the bottom end is great... plus the satelites are bi-amped... I would have bought the klipsch but read too many reviews on them about bad power supplies
Not quite what your looking for (not 2.1) but a set of studio monitors is a far better option IMO...
I really don't miss the sub as they naturally carry enough low end (opinions and tastes differ) and should provide far superior sound.
Biggest draw back is that they do tend to take up allot of desk space if you are limited.
Just throwing it out there for you to consider while you wait for sales of your current short-list.
