Question Analog Surround to Yamaha 5.1 Analog Input

Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble figuring something out. I would like to know on my analog surround sound output from my computer, which uses 1/8" mini jacks on the LFE/Center channel which channel is which. Like is LFE the left channel and Center on the right channel?

I'd like to know this before plugging the wrong channel into my Yamaha amp and ruining my speakers.

What card / motherboard are you using? There is an industry standard for colour coding ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_card ) but it's better if you can refer to the actual manual to be absolutely sure. You can also check your control panel to see if you've got sound card controller software as that will often show you what the different outputs / inputs are.

The main one to be concerned with would be the mic in (pink) or audio in (light blue), but again it's best if you can either have a look at the manual or the control software.

LFE is something for the subwoofer not speakers.

I understand that, but from my sound card LFE/Center is sent over a stereo 1/8" mini jack.

Green: Front L/R
Black: Rear L/R
Orange: LFE/Center <---- I need to know what comes out of Left and Right on this output.

Motherboard is an ASUS Crosshair IV Formula with a Sound Blaster X-Fi 7.1 analog/digital sound card.

I would use the optical output but the optical inputs are used by my PS3 and TV, and when I run HDMI it won't acknowledge my Yamaha as a 5.1 capable receiver.

Don't you have a speaker test in your sound card's drivers? Using that and some trial-and-error should help you figure out what's the center and what's the subwoofer.

with most sound cards that use 3.5mm jacks you have a jack for left/right, center/sub, and rear left/right

Orange: LFE/Center LFE=Left and Center=Right
